Events at the CTC! January 30, 2009

Posted by ctcoberon in Uncategorized.

The CTC “Home & Small Office Guide to PC Security and Good Housekeeping” has just got better. Now, in its third edition and still only $5.00, this new 39 page booklet (with over 30 images) now gives computer users an easy to understand insight in to the mathematics of computers i.e. the binary system, colour depth and storage values. As for software, there is even more information about cloud, freeware, open-source and security programs, including information about how to avoid all the nasties which one may come across while surfing the Net. And for the first time, we have included information about computer hardware, plus a little insight into what might be in Windows 7. However, our main goal like always is to provide users with good reliable information on how to best manage and protect their computers and data (i.e. photographs, music, videos and documents).

If you have purchased a copy of the CTC “Home & Small Office Guide to PC Security and Good Housekeeping” in the past, and wish to have the latest edition, simply bring your old copy to the CTC, and for just $3.00, we will exchange it. In addition, we can now offer the CTC Guide as a printout or as a PDF file, the choice is yours.

At last Thursday’s computer class we covered the following:

  • How to add headers & footers to MS-Word documents incorporating images, text and other features.
  • How to access free-to-air radio via the Internet i.e. the ABC, 2BS, 2GB & 2UE and the sound quality was superb.
  • How to download and listen to various Podcasts, and the one which most computer users will find interesting is Paul Thurrott’s (http://www.winsupersite.com/Default.asp) monthly Podcasts on all things Microsoft. Also, if you are a fan of the ABC Computer Show (http://www.abc.net.au/nightlife/) with Tony Delroy and Paul Wallbank (from PC Rescue), it too is available as a Podcast, for later listening.

Next month (February 2009) the CTC will delivery FREE Telstra Connected Seniors courses on “How to Use a Mobile Phone”. If you have not registered for this Telstra course, now is the time.

Also, next month starting on Friday morning 6 February at 10am we will be conducting our next Digital Photography Course for Beginners, cost $10/session and each session will run between two to three hours. If you wish to attend this course please register as soon as possible as places are limited (Tel: 6329-8210).

REMINDER: The CTC weekly classes on Tuesday afternoons with Maree Arrow will recommence on 3 February 2009. However, the Wednesday and Thursday afternoon classes with Julie Stott and yours truly (Ron Lardner) have already recommenced and if you wish to attend one or more of these classes, the good news is, we still have a few vacancies.
